This is what our small group did on 22nd October, 2006.

COMMENTARY

Everyone turned up in plenty of time - the weather forecast was for heavy rain but what a beautiful morning.  The fun run started at 9.00 am. Rosie, Chelsea, Joey, Michael, Kieran, Kathleen, Mick, Kate and Danny all took up their places on the start line.  The day was finally under way.
They all made it back safely, collected their goodie bags and settled down to CHOCOLATE!!!

The rest of us were patiently waiting for our race to start at 10.30 am.  It seemed ages so we decided to take a few photos.  A few of our supporters had arrived and the tension was mounting.  Everyone was really nervous at this point.  Then the moment arrived - everyone taking part were moving towards the start line.  There looked to be some SERIOUS athletes getting ready.  Still no sign of  rain - thank goodness. We were all gathered together then all seemed to get separated within a matter of seconds.  Anyway, we were off.

Diane, Ken, David, Rita, Julie, Gary, Jeanette, Alison, Tony, Adam, Hayley, Steve, Maureen, Steve, Michelle, Rose, Sarah, Jason, Dwin, Paul, Phil, Karl, Paul, Richard,  What a fantastic feeling being amonst all those people, all raising money for various charities.  An absolutely wonderful sight.  All we could see around us were people.  We headed off - the first part a downhill, gentle slope.  Not too bad!!!

Then the first uphill battle came - got to the top - round the corner and OH NO!! another hill!
There were markers along the way showing how many miles we had done. Not sure if that was a good or a bad thing.  The half way point saw a big time board.  Had to make sure that we got to the various points within the allotted time - 4 miles in 1 hr 10 mins and 8 miles in 2 hr 20 mins - no-one wanted to end up ON THE BUS!!! Still the weather held off.
The people of Coventry were fantastic - they came out of their homes encouraging the runners, cheering, clapping as people went by. Some had trays of sweets, fruit and drinks for everyone.
There were a number of drinks stations along the way offering energy drinks and water.  We definitely needed them.

Part of the course was around the Memorial Park - in fact a lot of the course was round the Memorial Park - we saw the same Ice Cream Van at least 4 times! Part of the course was through the grounds of Coventry University.   There were some cheer-leaders encouraging everyone who went by.
Still no rain - thank goodness - I think someone was watching over us.

Diane & Ken crossed the finishing line together to a great cheer from everyone - we had done it - and it was worth it.

Mom (Rita) crossed the line and everyone was relieved that we had completed it with a limited amount of injuries. At that point, the heavens opened - back to the cars and then on to the pub for some sandwiches and a well deserved drink.

Take a look at Our Half Marathon

Diane, Ken & David would like to thank everyone who took part - it was a special day, emotional day and was only made possible by our many family and friends taking part.  You are all complete stars!

Special thanks to our trainer, John Walker - without whom we could not have achieved what we have achieved.

And, thanks to all our supporters and sponsors - our final figure for the amount raised is 23,000. WOW!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP - IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED
